- GÖTZ, K. O.
- K. O. Götz, born
in Aachen in 1914, is best known as a major proponent of abstract
painting in Germany. Barred from exhibiting his works during the Nazi
years (1935 to 1945), his work was widely shown after the war, and
he has joined or cofounded groups of other artists (COBRA
in 1949, "Quadriga" in 1952) and taught art (in Düsseldorf
from 1959 to 1979). Examples of his paintings appeared in Volume 1,
Number 3. Götz is also a poet; in fact, he is considered one
of the few German-language practitioners of literary surrealism.
