- MEYER, E. Y.
- E. Y. Meyer, born in
1946, studied philosophy and history, and first worked as a teacher
before becoming a free-lance writer in 1973. During the 1970s, he
emerged as one of the most successful Swiss writers with stories
that blend fantasy elements and reality. He has received the Prize
of the Swiss Schiller Foundation and the Welti Prize for Drama,
among other awards. His workes include Das System des Doktor
Maillard (The System of Doctor Maillard; 1994). The
story printed in Vol. 3 No. 1 is taken from his 1995 publication,
Wintergeschichten [Winter Stories]; it exemplifies his dynamic
narrative style that draws the reader into an apparently trivial
situation which, however, takes unexpected turns into the uncanny.
A Journey to Siberia (Eine Reise nach Sibirien ) from Wintergeschichten:
Vol. 3, No. 1
Venetian Interlude (Venezianisches Zwischenspiel) from
Venezianisches Zwischenspiel (Zurich: Ammann, 1997): Vol.
5, No. 2
